Spark Collective is a student-led creative agency within James Madison University, serving nonprofit institutions in the Shenandoah Valley.
A collaborative project between Graphic Design and Nonprofit Studies students, Spark Collective supports community engagement at JMU by fostering mutually beneficial and reciprocal partnerships, ranging from local to global, that connect learning to practice, address critical societal problems and improve quality of life.
Students from both disciplines work together in an independent study course where they partner with a local nonprofit: Harrisonburg Education Foundation. Graphic design students work to support the organization in reaching their visual and marketing goals by applying the visual communication skills they’ve learned and developed, applying them in the service of a real-world client. Students in the nonprofit studies minor will focus on developing skills around project management in nonprofit organizations and in collaborative projects.
